Pls help if you can by answering this question…I had my laptop hurriedly pushed into the bag with the disk key still attached. The covering popped off so is just inner key which can still be inserted but computer can’t recognize it. is there any way for the information stored on it to be extracted as there is months worth of work on there and I am in tears.

I couldn’t agree more. Or you could update your devices to cordless devices and then you would not run into this problem. That’s the wonder of technology. It is always changing to make use of less space and to empty our pockets. Then again, isn’t money spent on technology worth the pure joy that we squeeze out of it?

I can’t believe I never thought about doing that before. It would have saved me a lot of time in the past dealing with Windows. Luckily, I have not run into any problems yet with my Mac.
I’m really glad I found your blog. I wanted to find out more about the people behind “The Simpsons.” It lead me to the Gracie Films website in which I found your name but not very much information about you. I then used Google to only be given very scarce information. I guess I will have to do more research.
I look forward to learning more about you.

Kezia, I’m not sure which are socially responsible, but the good news is that once you are set up with new Internet service provider, you’ll rarely have to deal with them, keeping yourself blissfully unaware of their evil doings. I use cable Internet service. (See my post entitled “Bandwidth Angst” for more) Time Warner has swept So. CA in cable service. DSL is now much more widely available at speeds up to 3.0 megabits.
Satellite is still relatively costly.
If I were you I’d call my local cable company and tell them you want to add Internet service. They should have a nice intro rate for 6 mos or a year and can probably have you installed in about a week.
If that doesn’t work, grab your phone bill, call the 800 number and ask if they can add DSL service to your residence. If you are able to set aside your feelings about unconstitutional spy programs for, saaay, ten minutes, you might hook yourself up with high-speed internet service that you’ll wonder how you lived without! I wish you good luck.

Having done PR for high-tech companies, I can relate to this. People expect me to have and to share the latest gadgets, be able to diagnose their problems over the phone, and worst of all, because I’ve worked with numerous backup companies, friends feel free to cry on my shoulder whenever they’ve lost data. This is a little like telling a cop you just ran a red light a few minutes ago and hit a pedestrian, but since you’ve been drinking, you don’t remember exactly where it happened.

But now to the question: my home setup is so low-tech, I still use ordinary dialup. Really, I hate telecom companies and cable companies. Either they’re monopolies, or their business practices are shady, or they’re kowtowing to the government’s unconstitutional spy programs.

Tell me, Geoffrey, aren’t their any socially responsible broadband options? If not, which is the least evil? And how awful or unreliable is satellite-based broadband service?

Senior Geoffrey, I share your passion for the pies. And to think we always met up for a burger!?!?! Anyways, I do believe Lamonica’s of Westwood deserves an honorable mention and it’s certainly a candidate for best sauce (ask them for a little extra in a container and they usually oblige). Man oh man I could live on their sauce. This place has even been endorsed by Iron Mike Tyson so if you don’t agree feel free to take it up with him. Larchmont does have a soothing charm all its own and enjoying a slice and the village scenery is a perfect afternoon.
